Laws and Referrals and Rulings…oh my

Victory for LIFE! As you may recall, Arizona’s Pre-Roe law (reaffirmed by the Arizona Legislature in 1977) had an outstanding injunction against it in Pima County. This injunction was due to the Roe v. Wade ruling. Since Roe has been overturned, logically, the injunction should be lifted. Arizona’s Attorney General argued just that in court. Friday, we got the rulingThe injunction has been lifted and the law is in effect across our state! *Bonus – Planned Parenthood announced they’re stopping all abortion services. The more than 50 pregnancy centers across Arizona stand ready to help any and every woman facing an unplanned pregnancy. Service has been at the heart of the pro-life movement from day one, and now our resources will really be put to the test! Consider supporting your local pro-life pregnancy center – you can find a list here!

No such thing? On a related note, you may have seen the shocking video of Georgia Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Stacey Abrams saying there is “no such thing” as a fetal heartbeat at 6 weeks. So much for following the science. But just a day later, to cover for her, Planned Parenthood changed its official description of an unborn child at 5-6 weeks gestation. There is no line the abortion-lobby won’t cross to defend their agenda.

A sad day for 11,000 families. When we voted to make Arizona’s successful Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program universal, children facing all kinds of challenges in their current schools saw a ray of hope. But “Save our Schools” has been an enemy of school options from day one and vowed to refer it to the ballot. Today, they turned in signatures to refer the expansion to the ballot and block the applications of 11,000 hopeful families who had applied already. If you or someone you know has recently applied for the program, check out this helpful Q&A for those in the ESA queue from my friends at Love Your School. The battle isn’t over. The signatures still need to be verified in order for this to appear on the ballot. And if it does, I expect thousands of parents to take up the challenge of protecting ESAs.

Other new laws taking effect! The work of this recent session just got real! Dozens of great laws just went into effect on September 24 – and you can read all about them here, courtesy of Center for Arizona Policy, as well as this update from the Governor and another good breakdown from reporter Ray Stern.

The crisis goes on. Two things that haven’t changed: 1) the border crisis getting worse and 2) Democrats pretending it doesn’t exist. August saw 203,597 southern border encounters compared with 50,014 the last August of Trump’s presidency. With the open border crisis comes a drug crisis. Fentanyl is pouring across the border – in fact, Phoenix police just announced the largest bust in Phoenix police history: 1 million fentanyl pills. Our kids will pay the price if we don’t get this under control.
