What do we do Now?

July 14, 2012 by

Yes – we’re riled up.   After  the Court’s convoluted Obamacare ruling, rulings against Arizona’s common sense ‘ID at the polls’ law & SB 1070 (see below), Obama’s unconstitutional Dream Act Exec. Order, and this week’s action gutting welfare reform –  it’s clearer than ever that we must Win in November.  But how?

Vote, of course, but to put it bluntly – we’ve got to put our money where our mouth is!  Most of us don’t have a lot of extra money right now, but if you do have a job, participation this year – even in a small way – even if you’ve never contributed to a campaign before – is imperative.  And I’m not talking about my campaign.

But “where will my donation do the most good?”    Here’s the strategy:

Taking over the U.S. Senate and keeping the House in Republican hands is as important as winning the Presidency.   Act-Right at Hugh Hewitt’s and other websites is the place to make a difference in races that will matter in  November.

Support Mitt Romney for President, too.  Thousands of small donations made the difference for Pres. Obama in 2008.  It can make the difference for Romney in 2012.

Repealing & replacing Obamacare and the next generations of Supreme Court  outcomes depend on electing a Republican President in 2012.  Like it or not, funding is an instrumental part of the game.

The stakes are too high to sit on the sidelines and complain.   Remember where this President and Congress have led us:

  • Obamacare’s future now lies with Congress and the next President of the United States.  See Obamacare in Pictures
  • SB 1070.  On June 25, 2012 the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the part of Arizona’s SB (Senate Bill) 1070 that requires law enforcement to check the immigration status of people they suspect to be in the country illegally if the officers are already stopping that person for a different violation.

What did the Obama Administration do in response?: On that same day, the Department of      Homeland Security under President Obama’s direction, terminated the 287(g) agreements with all Arizona law enforcement agencies and directed its ICE agents in Arizona not to deport illegal immigrants unless they were convicted of other crimes.

  • No ID at the polls.  In 2004, Arizonans overwhelming passed a voter initiative that requires proof of citizenship when registering to vote and ID when voting at the polls. The law was working well.  What is the Obama Administration doing?  It joined a lawsuit against our state to overturn the proof of citizenship requirement.  (The Obama administration has sued to overturn Texas and other states voter ID laws as well)
  • The EPA, under the Obama administration, wants to mandate expensive, unnecessary environmental upgrades to utility plants that will substantially increase utility rates in Arizona. The new EPA mandates will cost $110 million extra at one power plant alone and threaten to shut down the Navajo Generating Plant, the main source of electricity for delivering water into our valley.  Not only will our electric rates increase, but our water rates will soar.  If implemented, hundreds of jobs that support Arizonans, many from the Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribe, will be lost.
  • Welfare Reform – Undone!  Work requirements  – the key to the 1996 welfare reform successes are now out.  The latest directive from the administration dismisses the work requirements for welfare recipients. Read Gutting Welfare Reform and this good report about welfare reform – now gutted without Congressional action.
  • Jobs and the Economy.   8.2% unemployment, 17.5 trillion $ federal debt, no entitlement reforms and huge tax increases on the horizon – you get the picture.  See the Federal Budget in Pictures.
