Repeal and replace with what?

The solution to health care is not a trillion–dollar government takeover.  The solution is to give  consumers and healthcare providers more power, more control, and more choices.

Competition that drives efficiencies and effectiveness in other economic sectors can have the same effect in the health care system, if given the chance to work.

IF consumers have the information and the power to make decisions about their own care, placing the patient at the center of the process will drive quality up and costs down.

Here’s what a conservative Congress and state legislatures can do:

  • • End tax discrimination against the individual purchase of insurance- making it portable
  • • Allow consumers to shop for affordable, quality coverage, even if across state lines
  • • Allow medical savings account funds to be used for insurance premiums
  • • Enable transparent health care pricing

Also we need:

  • Tort reforms such as capping non-economic damages in medical malpractice lawsuits
  • •To empower individuals and small businesses to form purchasing pools – aka SB 1592, which I proposed in 2011 and Congress is considering
  • •To end discrimination against individuals with pre-existing conditions who maintain continuous coverage
  • Tax credits or a workable risk pool system for uninsured high risk individuals

Repeal and Replace.  We have our marching orders.
