“Waving their little teabags”

April 16, 2010 by

I guess I’m a malcontent.

Just like hundreds of thousands of Tea Partiers protesting across America – 7,000 at Tempe Diablo Stadium alone in Arizona (click here for details!) – on April 15th – TAX DAY –  to remind Washington that we’ve been Taxed Enough Already!  There is a limit to how much confiscatory government we will take – both of our freedoms and levels of taxation.

We’ve reached that limit.

In fact, we are  close to reaching the tipping point where most Americans pay few, and 47% pay no, personal income taxes while becoming more dependent on government benefits. The so-called “rich” paying the taxes are now deciding whether it’s worth the effort even to work  or expand their businesses because they are taxed so unfairly in order to support the expanding “safety net”.

The facts are troubling:  Republican Con. Paul Ryan recently recalled a 2004 report estimating 20% of households in the U.S. were receiving 75% of their income from the federal government and another 20% of households were receiving nearly 40%.  All in all, about 60% of American households were receiving more government benefits and services, measured in dollars, than they were paying back in taxes.  And Pres. Obama’s first budget alone raises this level of “net dependency” to 70%.

So, shouldn’t those who have more give to those who have less?

Well, yes, but individuals should rightly be left to decide how best to use their resources for the benefit of others.  And in this respect, Americans are the most generous people on earth.

However, Pres. Obama claims our economy is “out of balance,” and our tax policies “badly skewed.”  To resolve this, he says we need a “tax policy making sure that everyone benefits, fair distribution, a restoration of balance in our tax code, money allocated fairly…”

By this, of course, he means “redistribution.”

It’s not enough that 20% of Americans already fund 80% of the cost of bloated government.

According to the Heritage Foundation’s Index of Dependence on Government, “Despite the famed 1996 Welfare Reform Act…60.8 million Americans remain dependent on the government for their daily housing, food, and health care.”

There’s a groundswell of protest across the nation, which is far more powerful than what Obama dismissed as “malcontents” who are “waving their little teabags.”

And it’s not because Americans are greedy.  It’s because we know that Obama’s “progressive” economy is, in essence, Marxism:  “From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.”

The problem with that is once a majority of Americans can be “protected” from a tax burden, they will ignore the constitutional, moral and civic implications of “progressive taxation” and the makers of wealth essentially become the takers of others’ wealth until there is no wealth left.*

Other Tax facts:

  • The Hill reports “Taxpayers earning less than $200,000 a year will pay roughly $3.9 billion more in taxes — in 2019 alone — due to healthcare reform, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation, Congress’s official scorekeeper.

  • The healthcare takeover includes almost $564 billion in new taxes on American families and businesses.

  • If the Bush tax cuts are allowed to expire (which the Administration intends) on Dec. 31st of this year, we will see an almost $1 trillion tax increase.

  • The Death Tax want to bring it back at the outrageous rate of 55%.

  • Will all this taxation lead to a balanced budget, though?  Hardly.  The federal deficit this year is expected to end up over $1.5 trillion.**
